I run Kaspersky for several years. From XP to my new Vista64 laptop. KIS version 7 was the best one. It was light on the system, and very secure. Things started to go wrong after that. Starting with 2009. KIS works terrible in Vista64 bit. The real pain started after upgrading to 2010. Opera browsers takes 10 more seconds to boot and the same can be said for allot of other softwares. I noticed that my dual core with 4 GB laptop was getting slower and slower with each Windows updated that was rolled out. One night browsing folder and files it became terrible slow. Taking 10 seconds or more to open each folder. I disabled Vista Search Index. Rebooted system several times, check allot of things to get to the problem on what was using so much the disk. All I could find was that the disk access was 4 KB per second !!! Kis was always using somehow allot of CPU but I was blaming this on explorer.exe
So I finally decide to uninstall KIS. It took me like 2 hours so slow it was.
After that I booted and VOILA. Its like a new system. Almost all programs open on the fly, browsing files is a pleasure. And even boot times it no longer 3 minutes. I do happen to do allot of maintaince on my system with with TuneUP which is great but i was realy shocked on how fast everything was without KIS. I had to basically uninstall it completely so I could gain control back of my system. KIS was such a resource hug that I cannot believe I was using it so long. I changed to Norton and the system runs 100% perfectly as it did not had any antivirus. Perfect. KIS is an incredible resource hug on the system and their support is TERRIBLE. I happen to have bought my licenses directly from their website and pay like 40% that you pay for a boxed version. They never even reply your emails. And whats worst they make it hard or almost impossible to contact them. What kind of company is this that avoids paying clients? One year I could not even renew my license and they charged me a new one because I losed my key. Dont get me wrong KIS is a great security tool or I can say WAS.
It has almost nothing new from version to version except their sandbox features which I do like but besides that its not worth the resources it takes to run it even on new machines. My laptop is 4 months old so I cannot imagine how this runs on older systems. Did I mention that upgrading to 2010 changed my master password? Yes. I could not change the KIS setting anymore as it said incorrect password and I had to download a registry patch to reset it.
PLEASE do make yourself a favor. If you use your PC for work its not worth the delay. It increases opening of almost every program in your system by double. Disk access or any kind of file access gets also terrible slow to the point thats unacceptable. I hated norton for year but their version is just amazing. It runs perfectly. I just miss some features like to watch on real time files that are connected to the internet and the fine tuning KIS allowed you. Norton just works out of the box and I could love to play with setting more but its runs incredible smooth that I dont think any security solution right now can match it.

My husband bought this program. He said he read the reviews…now I’ll add mine own that will hopefully save others from the same waste of time and effort I spent trying to install this program.
I have been actively trying to install Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 for just over three hours. I have an average amount of internet/computer skills. I consider myself to be intelligent. So take the following for what its worth.
The program is such so that it cannot be installed if there are any other viral security programs on your computer. I uninstalled my Nortan Internet Security via the control panel as instructed. Went to install the Kaspersky and it says I still have Norton. Searched my computer in and out and couldn’t find anything. Reboot, check, reboot, check. Empty recycle bin. Nothing. Go to their website and they show me how to manually uninstall the program. Not useful as the program is already gone. Come to find out after researching the Kaspersky website further that there are files in the registry that are telling its installation program that I still have norton. Even when I dont. So they want me to download a 70MB patch. Start the installation of said patch, but then cancel it at a certain point. Then they want me to find the file in the program folders that the patch created. Run an exe. file out of that folder. Problem is, I downloaded the patch. I did what they said to do. There is no file in the program folders. There’s a note saying the file would be invisible, that you have to go to my computer>folder options>sell your soul>devour little babies>rip out more hair. Have I mentioned this has taken me over three hours? THREE HOURS. And its still telling me Norton is still installed. And I still have nothing Kaspersky-like installed. Shouldn’t they be paying me after all of this for my effort? Frankly, I’ll pay a little more money for a product with similar reviews so long as I can insert disk>click install>move on with life. THIS AINT THAT PRODUCT.
Needless to say, 3 hours later and a few handfuls of hair and I have no program installed. Husband tells me he read the reviews, so I thought I’d come here and read for myself. Maybe someone else had a similar problem? To which I find review after review talking about slowed systems, bloatware, etc. Now not only do I have no Internet Security on my computer. But I also have a huge concern with the trustworthiness of my husbands ability to read reviews.
Just kidding hun.
Take my advice, pay $10 more for a different program. You’ll get an install on your first try and can move on with life in a happy sort of way. That’s what I’ll do, and I’ll forget the name Kaspersky ever existed. Wow, just wow.
*chucks the Kaspersky disk back into an envelope and throws it into the RETURN THIS CRAP TO SENDER file*

I’ve been a big fan of ESET security solutions for a few years now, but I was unable to find their latest product at a reasonable price this time around. So instead of renewing the license I decided to try a new product. After intensive research, including reading the AV reports (which only reviewed the 2009 versions, however) and visiting this website [...] I found that Kaspersky was a reliable solution which offers more features than ESET and meets my needs. So, I decided to try it out.
And I have not been disappointed. Whatever flaws this product suffered at launch appear to be fixed. I have not suffered any of the problems a lot of the early reviews describe.
Kaspersky immediately detected 9 trojans that my ESET Smart Security had missed (though to be fair I don’t know if ESET picked up things Kaspersky missed). I am also impressed at all the features this product has. I am especially impressed with the sand box feature, which allows you to run applications in a safe environment, the virtual keyboard, and the vulnerability detector, which recommended some useful things. One of the main reasons I was a huge fan of ESET was because it did not slow my system down, especially during a cold boot. I noticed a very small difference in performance, but only during the cold boot. It probably took Kaspersky about 5 seconds more to launch. Other than that Kaspersky is just as light on my system than the ESET solutions have been. And as a side, enabling multi-core boot speeds up the start up process. Just go to the windows marble, type msconfig, go to the boot tab, and check number of processors. But anyway, im very satisfied with this product after 3 months of use. If you are an ESET user looking to upgrade don’t think twice! I haven’t missed ESET since upgrading to Kaspersky!
